Broken Promises
I watched the first “response” youtube video – what a load of rubbish. And to make things worse, he makes a second video which is full of complete rubbish.
If you’re gonna make a video which you want to be circulated – for one thing, take that cigarette out of your mouth, let alone talk with it in your mouth. Sheesh, what an idiot. While I agree with the message the guy is trying to get across, the method with which you’re delivering it is completely… I don’t know the words for it. Unprofessional? Redneck?
I was going to put the response video on my facebook page (which incidently is identified on that watchdog site) but I’d be embarrassed to do so now. If someone can direct me to one that is more, well, presentable, I’d be happy to do so.

Did you swear when you were a JW?
by St George of England ini have noticed that quite a few people here swear and use profanity.
an elder once told me this is quite common in the congregations he has been in.
i was raised in so never allowed to swear and never got into the habit.

Never swore as a JW and still don’t now. My dad (a JW) was of the generation (and maybe class) where swearing was looked down upon as crude. My dad used to say it was a sign of a lack of verbal literacy if you swore, because it indicated an inability to find alternative words to the swear words.
Anyway, I still don’t swear verbally. Occasionally I’ll think it, but I’ve never sworn.

Are they deliberately trying to get rid of the "Old TImers"? (re "generation")
by hamsterbait inthe vast majority have been sucked into the witchtower babble and trash cult over the last 25 years.. this constant rehashing and contradicting of the "generation " teaching is bound to drive significant numbers of the pre 1985 -"ish" witlesses away from the kingdumb hells, much as "1925" drove away vast numbers who might yet undermine "jug" rutherfords efforts to secure his power.. they will then be able to make major revisions of what to us older ones seem like core doctrines, which will be lapped up like iced cream by those who only have the perspective of the 21 century litterature.. this is too obviously deliberate.
its not like some tiny side comment:.
when the gibbering buddy wants some embarrassing thing to go away, blondie has pointed out many examples, they stop talking about it.. with this change they are rubbing peoples noses in it, slapping them round the head so they dont miss it.. and who are "gasping" at the co talks?

I don’t think they are intentionally getting rid of the old-timers, but it certainly has been the effect.
When I was a kid, the only ones who left were young kids who had turned 18 and didn’t have to attend meetings anymore. These days, those leaving are of all ages. People who are wising up to the cult and walking out the door forever.

Welcome, and congratulations on your bravery. I was born a year before you, so I was at the same age when the anti-education message was around. I would have loved to have gone to university, but if I had, my situation would have been similar to yours – homeless and ostracised by my family.
I am so happy for you that you were able to achieve your dreams – well done!!

birthdays....
by lesabre intomorrow is my birthday!
:) i've "been out" for 5 years, and my inlaws have thrown me b-day parties for all 5 of those years.
when i was a kid, my mom always said she didn't really think anything wrong with making your birthday a special day.

Broken Promises
Birthdays were a non-event. However, once a year, I would receive a special present which was called a “yearly present”. It would be a larger, possibly more expensive, present compared to what I’d get during the year. It was obviously my parents’ way of compromising. It more or less stopped as I got older, around the age of 12 or so.

by XPeterX ini am an unbaptised publisher and something happened (don't ask) and i had a "back room conversation" with 2 elders and they told me that i can't answer in the meetings or give talks for a while.this happened in the 1st feb 2010.my questions are:how long will i have to wait to answer again?do i have to meet with 2 elders again in the back room to talk about getting the priviledges back?what happens if i don't want to meet them in the back room again?if i refuse to be in the thocratic ministry school will/can they tell me that i am no longer an unbaptised publisher?please answer only if you are/was an elder or if you are sure.thanx.

I’m surprised that PeterX cares, considering that in Greece the Witnesses are treated like scum by the Greek Orthodox Church. Why be part of a religion is a hated minority? Be proud of your Greek roots and embrace your Greek heritage.

Ask your Dr for a reference to a dietician (if you need a reference, that is).
Speak to the dietician who will take into consideration your age, weight, lifestyle factors.
Good luck!

Can you tell more about old Crete magic practices? I’d like to know, because my ancestors came from Crete.
Also, a great great grandmother was named Marigold on her son’s wedding certificate, but it doesn’t sound Greek. Is that a similar name in Greek that sounded like Marigold?
